ONE OF A KIND - Chapter Nine“Horace!” Horace snorted in his sleep and rolled over. Will rolled his eyes. “Horace, get up!”
Horace groaned and propped himself up on his elbows, squinting up at his friend. “Is it my watch already?” He asked.
“No.” Will replied.
“Then why the hell did you get me up?!” Horace shouted.
Will smiled. “Because we’ve got a problem a bit more important than sleep.”
Horace rolled his eyes and stood up. “Then this better be pretty damn important…” He muttered.
“Oh believe me, Horace, you don’t want to miss this.” Will replied.
. . .
When Hiccup arrived with Toothless back in Berk, he wasn’t alone. Two more people had come with him. “Who’s this?” Merida asked.
“Merida, meet Horace. He’s a warrior.” Hiccup said with a mischievous smile.
Merida raised one eyebrow as Horace fell off of Toothless and laid up at the ground.
ONE OF A KIND - Chapter TenSilver looked up as the door opened. “Time to go.” The guard said.
“Where?” Silver demanded, standing up.
“You’ll see.” The Nonkrel smiled wickedly. Silver’s eyes narrowed but she did as she was told and left the cell.
. . .
The entrance to the castle stood tall in front of them. Beyond the gate was darkness as far as the eye could see, leading down into the depths of the earth.
“Should we split up?” Hiccup asked.
Toothless nodded. “I’ll go with Hiccup, Will and Jack.”
“And you’re making me go with the girls.” Horace said, his voice low.
“Ye got a problem with that?” Merida asked, crossing her arms.
Horace groaned and facepalmed. Will smiled. “Yeah, these groups are fine.” He said.
Horace glared at him, his hand still covering one of his eyes.
“You guys take left.” Hiccup said. “We’ll take right.”
Horace nodded. “Good luck.”
ONE OF A KIND - Chapter Eight Hiccup sat on Toothless, staring up at the massive castle in front of him. It was the biggest building he'd seen in his life, maybe even bigger than Castle DunBroch.
Toothless looked up at Hiccup and cocked his head to one side in question. Hiccup took a deep breath and nodded.
Toothless fixed his sight on the castle again and raised his hindquarters into the air. Hiccup leaned lower in the saddle, preparing for Toothless to take off.
But before he did, he heard something whiz past his ear. Toothless roared in alarm and Hiccup shouted in alarm. He drew his sword and faced the direction the arrow had come from, but he saw nothing but dark woods.
Hiccup's terrified expression grew to confusion. Had he imagined it...? Toothless let a low growl escape his throat in warning.
There was something there.
"Show yourself!" Hiccup shouted. "Come out and
ONE OF A KIND - Chapter ElevenSilver had never experienced pain. Not like she had just felt. It was horrible… the pain she felt made her feel like she just wanted her life to end. It didn’t help when the guard shoved her back into her cell with enough force for her to crash to the ground.
As he slammed the door behind her, she curled into a ball on the floor, to weak to stand up, and cried.
She was in immense pain.
She hadn’t eaten in days.
She was lonely.
She missed her brother… her family.
Hiccup, Merida, Jack, Rapunzel, Toothless; all of them. She just wanted to go home…
She was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn’t hear the door open.
Someone stumbles inside and the door slammed shut behind him. He wore all black clothes and had white stripes all over his body. He rubbed the back of his neck as he morphed into his full human form and glared at the closed door as though it had just insulter him.
He heard a small sound and spun around. “Who’s there?”
ONE OF A KIND - EpilogueSnoggletog. The most beautiful time of year. The baby dragons, the cheerful faces, the happy Vikings.
The happiest Viking by far had to be Hiccup. He watched with a smug grin on his face as Dante and Silver danced to the celtic music in the great hall. Toothless was less than happy about it, but he contained it. He was happy as long as his sister was happy.
Will leaned against the back wall, a drink in his hands, scanning the great hall; looking for familiar faces. As his eyes met Hiccup’s, he raised a hand in greeting.
“Have you seen Horace anywhere?” He asked.
Hiccup shook his head. “Come to think of it, no.” He said. “Any idea where he could be?”
Will shrugged. “When it comes to Horace you can never really…” His voice trailed off as loud laugh split he air from outside. Will’s eye widened. He nocked an arrow to his ever present bow and ran outside.
Hiccup rolled his eyes and set down his drink. “Not again
BEST OF THE BEST - Chapter FiveDrak winced as she pulled the arrow out of her shoulder. Thalia helped her to her feet, but as soon as Drak was up, she pushed Thalia away.
“I don’t need your help…” She muttered.
Thalia just rolled her eyes. She saw a white flash out of the corner of her eye and ducked. She looked up to see another white arrow sticking out of the wood where her head had been moments before.
She turned back around, facing the rest of her ship. The larger ship was catching up. The winds began to blow faster, Thalia could feel the storm approaching – but It would be a while before it hit. Hopefully they’d get rid of those damned sky pirates before then…
Too soon, the larger airship caught up. Several dozen sky pirates swung aboard on ropes. A few, Jason shot before they could jump onto the Omega’s deck, but the majority got over. One of them rushed Jason with a sword covered in red stains, roaring loudly. Jason only had just enough time to duck to the sid
Little Miss It“Do you enjoy her company?”
That, Avadaci concluded, had been the extent of his grandfather’s kindness. Thank the stars he had broken his neck after a failed attempt to ascend the castle staircase. Not that many were privy to this information. The official listing on the cause of death involved something along the lines of falling in battle after slaying at least a dozen demons, although this was treated with quite a bit of skepticism by the general populace. Yet, interestingly enough, a decent portion of the locals believed a tale about the cannibals of Unkhtom devouring him whole.
Not that Avadaci really cared how his grandfather had died. He was just glad he was dead. And if he was glad his grandfather had died, Avadaci wondered, why did he have to attend his funeral? In fact, the whole kingdom was glad his grandfather had died. Why did they have to attend the funeral?
“Oh Avad,” proclaimed his mother, “obv
Twenty-three years before the crippling of Crown Prince James III
He was fourteen and she was probably aged about the same, give or take a few years. It had been an hour since he'd met her.
He hated her already.
She scowled behind him and likely shared the sentiment as they scampered up the hillside in a desperate attempt to escape the roaring mob that seemed to be growing perpetually larger and coming ever-closer. Gabriel would have liked to say that it was all her fault he was in this situation, though it was his careless nicking ofwhat was it? A chicken that started the first old woman running, but how was he supposed to know that she'd stumble and fall and everyone else would think he'd assaulted her?
He hadn't. He'd taken the chicken, snapped its neck and run, because he hadn't eaten meat in weeks and he was starting to feel the affects on his already weak limbs.
This is what happens, he thought. This is what happens when you live like th
