Snoggletog. The most beautiful time of year. The baby dragons, the cheerful faces, the happy Vikings.
The happiest Viking by far had to be Hiccup. He watched with a smug grin on his face as Dante and Silver danced to the celtic music in the great hall. Toothless was less than happy about it, but he contained it. He was happy as long as his sister was happy.
Will leaned against the back wall, a drink in his hands, scanning the great hall; looking for familiar faces. As his eyes met Hiccup’s, he raised a hand in greeting.
“Have you seen Horace anywhere?” He asked.
Hiccup shook his head. “Come to think of it, no.” He said. “Any idea where he could be?”
Will shrugged. “When it comes to Horace you can never really…” His voice trailed off as loud laugh split he air from outside. Will’s eye widened. He nocked an arrow to his ever present bow and ran outside.
Hiccup rolled his eyes and set down his drink. “Not again…” He groaned and jogged after Will, pulling his sword out of its sheath.
When Will got outside, no one was in sight. He turned the corner to see two horses eating grass on the side of the great hall, their reigns laid loosely on the ground.
One was pure white, almost blending in with the snow. The other was light brown with a black mane. He whinnied in greeting as he noticed Will.
Will’d eyes widened as he recognized the two horses. “Oh my god.”
“HAPPY SONGLETORG!” There was a shout of alarm from behind and spun around to see that Hiccup had been tackled from above by a tall man wearing the same style clothes as Will and a similar green cloak as well.
From on the roof of the great hall, the girl face palmed. She had long, blonde hair, and wore a long, simple but elegant dress, and white boots keeping her feet warm.
She sighed. “Gilan, I hate to say this but you really are an idiot.”
Gilan looked down at the boy he’d tackled and his face fell. “Oh.”
“GILAN WHAT THE HELL?!” Will shouted.
“You know him?!” Hiccup shouted.
“I am so lost, but this is really entertaining.” Jack said with a mischievous smile as he floated upside down above Hiccup and Gilan.
“Why is he floating?” Gilan asked as he got off of Hiccup.
“That’s… not normal…” Alyss said.
Will rolled his eyes with a sigh. “What are you doing here?”
“Halt has gotten himself into a slight predicament with an explorer ship.” Alyss explain.
“Define ‘incident’.” Will said suspiciously.
“She means that Halt is stuck on an exploration ship headed for uncharted waters.” Horace said from where he sat on the roof next to her. He smiled mischievously. “And you and I both know how he gets when he’s on water.”
“How did he get himself in that mess?” Will asked, running his fingers through his hair.
“We’ll explain later.” Gilan replied. “Right now, we need to get him out as soon as possible.”
“And I’m sorry Will, but that means we need to leave now.” Alyss added.
Will sighed and turned to face Hiccup sadly. “I’m sorry.” He said.
Hiccup nodded. “Me too.”
Will smiled and raised one eyebrow. “I will be seeing you again, Hiccup.”
“Same to you.” Hiccup said with a nod.
Will smiled. Then he put his thumb and fore finger in his mouth and blew. A sharp, piercing whistle split the air. From up the hill, Tug trotted up to meet his master. Will swung into the little horse’s saddle and smiled down at Hiccup as he gathered in the reigns.
“Safe passage, my friend.” He said quietly. He turned to face Gilan and the others to see that they had all mounted their horses while he’d said his goodbye. “Let’s go.” He tapped Tug’s flank with the heels of his boots and galloped off towards the ship waiting for them to take them home at the dock.
“Safe passage.” Hiccup whispered. He continued to watch the group as Jack landed beside him. Rapunzel and Merida walked out of the great hall and watched them go beside Hiccup.
“Do you think we’ll ever see them again?” Merida asked.
Hiccup smiled. “I know we will.”
