Literature Text

It was Snoggletog in Berk. There was a foot of snow everywhere and the temperature was below zero, but for some reason, the water wasn’t frozen. Then again, it WAS an ocean. It was particularly difficult to freeze oceans. However, the pond in the cove where Hiccup had first rode Hiccup was definitely frozen.
Hiccup sat on a rock, drawing a picture of Toothless as the dragon skidded around on the ice with his forked tongue sticking out in concentration.
Ever since the incident with Gothel, Toothless had been especially protective of Hiccup. Hiccup watched him as his faithful dragon fell flat on his face.
He sighed. He hadn’t seen any other members of ‘The Big Four’ as they’d grown to call their group since Pitch attacked Berk. He missed them. It wasn’t quite as cheery around without them, especially with Snoggletog coming up. The other dragons had already left for the island so they could lay their eggs. Toothless had stayed behind with Hiccup like he always did.
Hiccup couldn’t help but feel worried about the dragon. Toothless was the only Night Fury in recorded history. And no one had ever said anything about meeting one before. Then again, neither had Hiccup for a while. He smiled grimly.
He looked up at Toothless again. The dragon seemed to be happy enough playing in the ice. And he’d be much happier once his dragon friends came back from the island. Hiccup looked into the sky as he realized it was getting dark. He closed his notebook and stood up.
“Well, Toothless, I’d say it’s time to – GAH!” Hiccup didn’t realize that he’d walked onto the ice and his mechanical foot slipped. He would have fallen, but as always, Toothless was there. Hiccup smiled and climbed on him. He patted Toothless’s neck as he slid his foot into the holster. “Alright bud, let’s go home!”
Toothless roared and took to the air.
. . .
When Hiccup arrived back at his house, he climbed off Toothless and walked to the front door. But when he opened it, he saw something he didn’t expect inside the house.
“Hey, he’s-” Hiccup didn’t hear the last word because he slammed the door shut again. Toothless cocked his head to one side in confusion. Hiccup just stared at Toothless, shocked. He heard someone tap on the door from the inside.
“Hiccup, you okay out there?” He heard a muffled but familiar voice from the inside of his house. Hiccup opened the door a crack and waited a second or two. No one from the inside spoke, waiting.
He slowly opened it more and poked his head in. Sitting around the fireplace in the center of the living room were Merida and Rapunzel, both smiling at him. Hiccup’s eyes narrowed suspiciously. He started to walk over to his friends.
“Where’s Ja-AH!” Hiccup shouted in surprise as his mechanical foot got caught in one the floorboards.
Toothless roared in alarm from outside. But instead of falling, Hiccup felt a cold hand on his shoulder steadying him back up. “Relax, Hiccup, I’m right here.” Jack Frost patted Hiccup’s shoulder and went to sit down next to Punzie.
Hiccup smiled at the three of them. “How… What are you… doing here…?” Hiccup asked.
“My mum let me come here for Chris… What’d you call it?” Merida asked.
“Snoggletog.” Hiccup said. Jack raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
“Right right… My mum let me come here for Bottomtug or whatever.” Merida said with a wave of her hand. Jack facepalmed.
“What about you?” Hiccup asked Jack. Jack just shrugged.
“I had nowhere else to go so… I stopped by at Rapunzel’s tower and asked if she wanted to come with me to visit you and she immediately agreed.” He said. Rapunzel just smiled.
“Okay… so now that you’re here…” Hiccup opened the door and whistled loudly. Toothless imeadiately bounded into the house. “I guess it’d be okay to break a few rules…”
“IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!” Jack said, leaping to his feet. He cheered and froze the fire on accident. Hiccup facepalmed. “Oops…”
Merida sighed. “It took me half an hour to light that…” She muttered. Rapunzel just giggled, her hand covering her mouth as though she were trying not to laugh. Jack just stared at her.
“Why’re you trying not to laugh?” He asked. Rapunzel, realizing how stupid it was to try not to laugh at Jack, The Guardian of Fun, burst out laughing.
Jack nodded and crossed his arms, a satisfied grin on his face.
Hiccup and Toothless find this year's Snoggletog rather lonely.
