“No.”
“Please?”
“No.”
“Pleeeeease?”
“No.”
“Why not?” Drak whined.
“Because you are a prisoner.” The guard replied.
“Aren’t you supposed to FEED your prisoners?” Drak asked in the most annoying voice she could come up with.
“No.”
“But I’m HUGRYYYYY!” Drak moaned.
“In truth, Drak wasn’t hungry in the slightest. Quite the contrary, she she’d lost appetite in the battle above deck. Suddenly there was a knock on the door to the brig.
“Stay put, Hybrid.” The guard ordered.
“Am I getting food now?”
“NO!”
The guard stormed off to answer the door, out of Drak’s sights.
“What the-” Then there was a loud thud and the clattering of the guard’s sword hitting the wooden floor. Drak stood up and took a step closer to the bars of the cell. “Warden…?” She called cautiously.
For a moment, nothing happened. Then Star, in her human form, stepped out of the shadows.
Drak scowled. “What do YOU want?” She demanded.
Star rolled her eyes and tossed something through the bars of the cell. Drak caught it and looked at it to see that Star had tossed her an apple. “You said you were hungry.”
Drak looked up at her, eyes narrowed.
“I want to call a truce.” Star said. “Temporarily.” Star stuck a hand through the bars and held it there, waiting patiently.
Drak hesitated, glared at Star. Star remained motionless, staring calmly into Drak’s eyes. Drak sighed and shook her hand.
“Fine.” She said. “But only because Ant needs us. When this is over, I WILL kill you.”
“I look forward to seeing you try.” Star said. She pulled her hand back through the bars and reached into her back pocket, pulling out the guards keys. She shook them teasingly, smiling.
She unlocked the cell door and opened it. “Where’s Thalia?” Drak asked as she walked out of the cell.
“That pirate forced her into her Captain’s Quarters. That’s all I know.”
Drak grabbed her sword off the guard’s table. “Then let’s get her out.”
. . .
At first, when Logan practically dragged her out onto the deck of the Omega and to the rail facing the Omega, Thalia had no idea what was going through his mind.
Then he lit a match.
“NO!” Thalia lurched forward, but two of Logan’s pirates held her back by her arms. Thalia paid no attention to the fact that both were stronger than she was and continued to struggle against them. “Don’t you DARE!” She screamed.
“Join my crew.” Logan said, his voice dangerously low. “Or your ship goes down in flames.”
“I would rather DIE than be like you!” Thalia shouted furiously.
Logan’s eyes narrowed. “Fine.”
His grip on the match loosened.
Suddenly, there was a flash of black and purple and Star was on top of Logan, her wings spread out. She pinned him to the ground, growling.
A fraction of a second later, Drak stabbed the pirate restraining Thalia’s left arm. In the heat of the moment, Thalia ripped her arm from the remaining pirate’s grip and side-kicked him it the head. He stumbled and flipped backwards over the rail of the Marauder. With no back up and a sword up to him neck, Logan glared at Star.
“Idiots…” He muttered. “Now we’ll all die.”
“No we-”
“Thalia?” Thalia looked at Drak to see her eyes wide with fear. She followed Drak’s gaze to see that Logan’s lit match had fallen onto the wooden deck of his own ship and had spread quickly. It traveled up the rope to the air container; the only thing keeping them in the air.
“On no!” Thalia gasped, her eyes wide.
There was nothing any of them could do. The fire reached the air container and began to consume it. The air all rushed out of it too quickly.
The Marauder started falling.
. . .
Ty sat by the fire, warming his hands. “They’re taking a long time…” He said nervously, glancing upwards. The two airships were still there – hovering high above the ground. On the larger ship, a small light was visible, but it didn’t seem like a big problem.
“They’ll be fine.” Jason said. “They’re just being patient.”
Ty took his eyes away from the two ships. “Jason, you and I both know that Drak isn’t exactly the patient type.” Ty said worriedly.
“But you and I both know that Star and Thalia ARE.” Jason replied confidently. “Come on, have a little faith! I’m sure that everything is under con-”
Suddenly a huge CRASH split the air.
“What was that?!” Jason and Ty both looked to the source of the sound to see that the larger ship had crashed.
From the Omega, distant shouts of alarm and anger could be heard from Logan’s crew members.
“Under control.” Ty said. “That’s funny.”
